I wish I had taken before pics of the kitchen, but here are the after (or in progress). A couple walls came down to open our narrow, cramped, L shaped kitchen. Remember the bathroom remodel? Well, that included closing off a small room thus making this kitchen into a big square shape. It is such a relief! I LOVE the space, especially with 3 small children who always want to be where I am. With some cheap peal and stick linoleum (see the 2 patterns?) it is very usable, even though the walls are exposed. We will probably work in long spaced-out phases: drywall, flooring, cabinets. So check back in about 3 years for the complete after pics!

Wow! That is a big project! Good thing you are relaxed about taking it slow and one step at a time. That will help immensely!
I really like your white farmhouse style table...so cute!
Looks nice. We have that peal and stick in our kitchen and our bathroom. I wouldn't recommend it around the bathtub. With all the water that Ella splashes out during her bath I don't think it will last very long.
After you live in and around the work you tend to not notice it. At least until you invite friends over.
A house is always a work in progress. Ours is anyways.
It looks great Jenica! The space you gained is amazing. I am a little confused though....did the fridge move? I am guessing what is next to the fridge is not the porch area where you have a table?
Actually, we have had it this way for almost 2 months and we're fine with it looking rough.
Shawna, the first 2 pics were taken from the kit/din doorway, so yes, that is the "nook" you see to the left of the fridge where we had a table (the table is now my desk. thanks Rachel, it was my first and only auction purchase). Wow, bad grammer there!
Brian, it's true, houses are a work in progress...sometimes we wonder if it's very good use of our time...
kitchens take sooo long to complete. there always seems to be "one more thing" to finish. take your time and do it the way you want it. it looks like it is coming along great.
ok, that makes sense.
We can totally understand questioning whether or not home remodeling is worthy time investment. It is a catch 22 because you either pay with time or $$$. (as in buying a house that has everything done or paying someone to do it!) It seems like planning on it taking a while to complete would alleviate a lot of the stress! Most of our issues are my estimation of when a project should be done multiplied by what we call around here "the rex factor"!
Wowzers! I love all that space! Our house is a work in progress as well, but we are not planning to take down any walls. :)
I love your glass-fronted cabinets. So pretty!
cabinets are part of the plan? those look like they are fairly nice and new. Brandon and I have a kitchen remodel in our future too. I'm not looking forward to it as I know our budget will cause it to be a long drawn out project as well.
Grace, the cabinets look fine, but they are very low quality, particle board. We are going to do a little different design, so we'll need more. Plus, it'll be better resale to have done the remodel right/nice. But they are great for now.
Wow, I love all the space! It will be fun to see what you guys decide to do with it.
