Floor redo

Alas, we still can't justify putting down new wood floors, so we tried to improve what we have. A little paint for those ugly, patched, 3 types of wood, 100 year old planks.
I loved them after the white primer.
But my hubby said absolutely no way. He's wise, he knows that white floors = cranky wife.
So black bean they became.
A new rug atop.
Done after 3 days.
The budget breakdown:
Paint =$200 (Sherwin Williams)
8x10 Wool Rug=$200 (TJ Maxx)
Total = $400
We call this recession flooring.

"Tried to improve?" I would say you succeeded. Looks beautiful!

(You coming down anytime soon? Can't wait to see you!)

It looks so good Jenica! I thought the white looked good too, but practically I can see Andy's point. The dark look so great though!

They look awesome! Were the floors in the dining room already painted? I seem to remember that. It is my dream to have all painted wood floors and stained concrete in a house. I absolutely love the way it looks. We were going to do it in the kitchen, but the wood under there ended up being a very soft pine that would give when you walked on it. So we put down painted white laminate wood floor.

April has white painted wood floors at her new place...maybe she will post some pics too! Where did you guys live while you were doing this? I am trying to imagine how your stayed there and had wet floors!

Wow, that looks like a BIG job! How in the world did you do that and live in the house at the same time?
I can't wait to see it in person. It looks great in the pics and I really love your rug, glad you decided to keep it.
Great job!

Yes, I want to know your process as ours didn't turn out like we had planned and we need to redo them. The floors look great. I was torn between either black or white but went with white to brighten the place up.

I LOVE it Jenica! Good choice on the dark wood. I still need to stop by next time I am in Iowa to see your house... =]

Hope - I'd love to see you! Actually there are a lot of people here who'd love to see you!;)

Shawna - I give Andy all the credit for the painting strategy. We did the out of pathway sections in the day and the pathways to all the rooms when the kids were in bed (then was dry by morning). So, we painted ourselves up the stairs two nights!
Oh, yes, the dining room was painted before.

April - I'm with you, I love the fresh/light feel that white gives. I'm not a big fan of dark paint, but this works. I'd love to see your floors! Are the peeling up? I expect we'll have to repaint in a couple years...we primed and did 2 coats of paint with good quality porch/floor paint, we'll see how it deals with 3 wild kids...

Ana - stop by anytime!
Thanks for all the nice compliments!

No, they're not peeling, they just didn't turn out like we wanted. We were in a hurry and only able to put one coat on so it didn't cover as much as we would have liked. Then, despite buying clear polyurethane, it turned our floors yellow. He didn't polyurethane our bedroom so I'm going to move us into the living room and throw a couple more coats over it and see how that looks.

The floors look great Jenica! I love the chocolate color and the new rug. My kids have hardwood floors that are not in great shape. Maybe I should try painting them . . .

Your floors are beautiful. Black was a good choice. White would have been a mess to keep clean.
