Crossing and Stitching

Since I only have one more item to check off my cleaning schedule for the day, I have a little time on my hands. Unless you count the other list for all the extras that need to be accomplished. A woman's work is never done right?

Other facts influencing my free time feelings are: the kids are happily watching Little House on the Prairie. And because I have such a fondness of it myself, my normal tv guilt is at a minimum. Speaking of guilt and time, the kids will be eating Wednesday's cheap McD's happy meals for dinner en route Prayer Meeting. "Plan/make dinner" has a check by it.

A minute ago, I came SO close to lugging my wonderful, ancient, avocado-green, Kenmore sewing machine up from the basement. The machine my grandpa got me at and auction for $20 right after I got married. The at least 100lb. machine my poor husband pushed across the Denver airport in a umbrella stroller. But the humiliation was worth it because he paid $0 for a sewing machine that every new wife must have. And he didn't know it at the time, but pushing that blessed machine was a cinch compared to a screaming baby.

Oh! I have some sewing projects on the horizon. At least I want to have some if the "to do" lists ever end. I'm concluding that they won't, though, so it's one or the other - it's about making priorities:

  • den curtains in ivory burlap

  • felt hair clips for the girls (with their help)

  • spring couch pillow covers

  • and after 10 yrs., another quilt

These are gorgeous & free quilt patterns from Amy Butler Design.

Ok, who wants to make a quilt?!

Well, time is up and now I'm going to write "blogging" on my list....and then cross it off.

What does a Yak have to do with hygiene?

Eric Carle

This "Yickity-Yak" who is "sniggildy-snaggildy" and covered with "shiggildy-shag", brought my prompting home. Leyla is now determined to toughen up, not fuss and be diligent about her daily hair brushing - lest she look like him.

Thank you, Yak.

My other baby

She is officially my baby by 1 minute. Now she's 4! (Or as she says "fur".) She is a funny girl and doesn't mind a bit when she's chuckled at. One of her best silly traits is how she mixes up word usage. Like calling the beauty mark by her eye a "bookmark".
Love you, sweet Chlo bug.

Irish Cowboy... (huh?)

Whatever. But he sure is cute. He thinks he's big, too, just turning 4 and all. He informed me that next year I won't be able to hold him anymore.
He just got home from a 6 day trip to AR. Mommy thought he was definitely too young for that - even if he was going to Grandma and Grandpa's.
Sorry, bud, you will always be my baby.

(Is this how "Mama's boys" come into existence? Hopefully his dad isn't noticing.)

Little Miss Moffitt

Sat on a tuffet,
eating her curds and whey;

There came a big spider,
who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Moffitt away.

We've been better.

Every couch and chair in this living room is occupied by a sickling. We've come down with the respiratory virus that Andy had... and is still not 100% after a week.

Chloe seemed fine this morning so we forced ourselves into the car to take her to gymnastics at 9 a.m. Although the roads were a bit treacherous after another snow storm, we made it. But, after much crying and emotional stress, Chloe chickened out of staying at class without her brother.

So back in the car. We were hungry, but nothing sounds good. Maybe a bagel at Panera bread? I pull up to the door and Leyla vomits down the front of herself. Lovely. I run in and get 4 bagels and a coffee. Homeward.

This day began suddenly with Andy bursting into the bedroom groaning in pain. He had smashed his finger in our neighbor's garage door after snow blowing. It's an old pull-down door and his finger was in the hinge of one of the panels. It was a struggle to get the door back up to get his finger out. His nail was already black and the tip of his finger swollen.

This is especially unfortunate since the thumb on his other hand has a pulled ligament from skiing. The doc said his cast/brace must be worn for 6 weeks.

Like Father like son: Yesterday Caden thought it would be a good idea to use a knife to cut his banana open, but instead sliced the tip of his finger. Lots of blood, I hope it didn't need stitches, I don't think it did. Poor baby.

We are a mess. Please don't drop by for a visit.

But! The sun is shining and the snow is glistening today! That is a definite mood lifter.
